EQS Wall tells you whether a wall or a roof will stay dry. You give its layers from inside to outside, the city and the room; it answers Safe, Acceptable or At risk, says why, and shows what to change. It works on the iPhone, the iPad and the Mac, in English, German and Romanian.
Start from an example close to yours (old brick, inside or outside insulation, aerated concrete, a 1970s panel, timber frame, a roof), then change it: tap a layer's name to choose another material, use − and + or type the thickness, move layers with the arrows, add layers on the inside or the outside.
Tap “Values” under a layer and type the thermal conductivity λ and the vapour resistance factor μ (or the sd of a membrane) from the product's data sheet. “Reset” brings back the typical value.
In Place, tap “My location” on an iPhone or iPad (it stays on your device), type the coordinates, or pick the nearest of 221 cities; give the house’s elevation for a hilly place. Then choose the kind of room: a bathroom or a kitchen gives more vapour than a bedroom. The room temperature is 20 °C unless you change it.
The result says what to do: the vapour retarder the wall needs and where, or how much insulation the inside surface needs against mould. “Add it” puts it into the wall so you can see the new result.
More → My walls saves the wall under a name. “Copy the report” in the result puts the layers and the numbers on the clipboard for an e-mail or a document.
The U-value by EN ISO 6946. Mould on the inside surface and condensation inside the wall by EN ISO 13788, month by month (the Glaser method), with the indoor humidity of its humidity classes. Climates: monthly means from the NASA Langley Research Center POWER Project (2001–2020 for the cities, 2001–2025 for the grid used with a location or coordinates).
What the method leaves out: rain, the moisture of new building work, air leaking through gaps, thermal bridges and the studs of a timber frame. Capillary-active inside insulation (calcium silicate, wood fibre, insulating plaster) usually does better than the method shows; for it, and for anything critical, ask for a hygrothermal simulation. EQS Wall is a check that helps you decide, not a certificate.
iPhone and iPad with iOS 16 or later; Mac with macOS 12 or later. One purchase covers all three.
